Mission

It is said that Virtue, or Arete, has her dwelling place

Above high rock cliffs hard to climb;

And she is not to be seen by every eye

But only by one who with sweat and determination climbs to the peak.

The Arete Fund is a non-profit, charitable organization that supports education locally and acts globally to encourage greater cultural understanding by means of humanitarian, educational, and artistic projects. Arete makes annual contributions to colleges on behalf of needy and deserving individuals who exemplify Arete – an ancient word for Virtue and excellence – and in turn, seeks to rekindle its ancient meaning for the modern day as a means of fostering mutual respect and good will.

Fund Scholarships – Founded in 1997, The Arete Fund makes annual contributions towards the first year of college on behalf of needy and deserving high school seniors who exemplify Arete – an ancient word for virtue and excellence – and in turn, seeks to rekindle its ancient meaning for the modern day as a means of fostering mutual respect and good will.  The Fund has awarded annual scholarships since then to a graduating senior at Menlo-Atherton High School in CA.

Global Education and Outreach – The Arete Fund recognizes that education is the key for developing countries to achieve continued growth and stability. The Arete Fund seeks opportunities through existing non-profits to make use of the resources that these organizations have already developed. It is our goal to select opportunities that will maximize the impact of our contribution.

Cultural Exchange – The value of education is greatly enhanced by the opportunity for students and teachers around the world to share their culture with others. This is based on the belief that the more we are able to interact with others from different cultures, not only do our lives become richer, but the prospects for creative and peaceful collaboration increase.To this end, The Arete Fund has sponsored several events over the last two years and hopes to continue this sponsorship in the future.
